Founded
1975

Harwood House is a non-profit halfway house in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, helping adult men recover from substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Serving the community since 1975, the program offers a safe, supportive place to rebuild life. Stays range from three to six months, with structured care and regular reviews to ensure steady progress. The program uses evidence-based therapies including individual and group counseling, relapse prevention, and the illness management and recovery (IMR) model. Clients also engage in life skills training, mindfulness, yoga, and trauma support through the men’s trauma, recovery and empowerment model (M-TREM). This approach helps residents manage symptoms, build goals, and prepare for lasting recovery. Harwood House provides supportive, home-style living in a safe environment. Residents receive health and nutrition education and weekly in-house psychiatric consults. The structured setting promotes healing and independence while preparing individuals for reintegration into the community.
